The United Democratic Movement expresses its heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved families, friends, and colleagues of the six members of the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) who perished on Friday at Lohatla Military Combat Training Centre in the Northern Cape when a wildfire engulfed the army property.

After suffering second-degree burns during the SA Army’s Vuk’uhlome drill, three troops are still in hospital and we wish them swift recovery.

Together with the families of the departed, the UDM mourns the following SANDF members, Staff Sergeant Abraham Morajane, Staff Sergeant Sipho Cele, Corporal Sithembiso Ndwalane, Lance Corporal Prince Mthethwa, Corporal Noxolo Ngubane, and Lance Corporal Londiwe Zulu.

This is a great loss to the South African Nation as a whole, the defence force and indeed their families as we have lost protectors of the South African Sovereignty and Democracy.

Our hearts go out to the families. May the Lord be with them during this difficult times.
