The United Democratic Movement (UDM) has been calling for the immediate closure of illegal mining operations that continue to wreak havoc on our economy. However, our call falls on deaf ears as government refuses to head our call. Illegal mining activities have reached alarming levels, causing severe strain on our resources and hindering economic growth.

These empty promises that we have repeatedly heard from the Minister of Police, Bheki Cele, are no longer acceptable. It is high time for the government to take decisive action and put an end to this relentless exploitation of our natural resources.

Illegal mining has far-reaching consequences, not only for the economy but for the environment and the safety of our communities as well. These activities are depleting our finite resources, damaging ecosystems, and compromising the health and well-being of our citizens. We cannot allow these illegal miners to continue their operations unchecked.

The UDM condemns this illegal activity in the strongest terms and demands immediate closure of all illegal mines.
