Statement by Yongama Zigebe, UDM Secretary General
It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we extend our deepest condolences to the Ngema family, fans, and the South African public on the untimely passing of the legendary musician, composer, and playwright, Mbongeni Ngema.
The news of Ngema’s passing in a head-on collision on his way back from a funeral in the Eastern Cape has left us all deeply saddened and in mourning. His immense contributions to the arts, his musical genius, and his influential role in shaping South Africa’s cultural landscape will forever be remembered and cherished.
Mbongeni Ngema’s artistic brilliance, coupled with his commitment to storytelling, uplifted countless souls and left an indelible mark on our hearts. His passion for using music and theatre as a means of social commentary and cultural expression was a testament to his dedication to South Africa and its people.
During this difficult time, our thoughts and prayers are with the Ngema family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched through his artistry. His legacy will continue to resonate through the melodies, lyrics, and powerful narratives that will forever remain an integral part of South Africa’s cultural fabric.
