Statement by Yongama Zigebe, Secretary General of the United Democratic Movement

The United Democratic Movement (UDM) welcomes the announcement of the new cabinet by President Cyril Ramaphosa. We place our hopes in this Government of National Unity to bring about significant change in the lives of our people.

We had hoped for continuity in the International Relations Department, given the remarkable work done by Minister Pandor. We trust that Minister Lamola will continue his path and build upon his achievements.

We commend the inclusion of young people and women in the cabinet, creating a balanced team. It is our sincere hope that these young ministers will not just be tokens but will have a substantial voice in shaping the direction of our country.

We are pleased with the appointment of our President, Bantu Holomisa, into the cabinet. Given his extensive military experience as the head of the Transkei Defence Force and Transkei Government, his over twenty years of Parliamentary service, and his tenure as Deputy Minister in the first administration of Tata Nelson Mandela, we are confident in his capabilities. Congratulations, President Holomisa!

The new cabinet must roll up its sleeves and begin working immediately, as our people urgently need change to improve their lives. We wish them all the best in this mammoth task ahead.
