Statement by Cllr Luxolo Namette, Nelson Mandela Bay Metropolitan Municipality
The United Democratic Movement (UDM) welcomes the recent announcement by Volkswagen Group Africa regarding its R4 billion investment in its manufacturing plant located in Kariega, Eastern Cape. This significant investment is earmarked for facility upgrades and preparing for the addition of a third model to its production line-up, commencing in 2027.
Volkswagen Group’s commitment to South Africa, spanning nearly 73 years, is commendable, especially its focus on the Eastern Cape region and the residents of the Nelson Mandela Bay Metropolitan Municipality (NMBMM).
The UDM views this investment as a promising development for the local economy, anticipating positive impacts on job creation and opportunities for small, medium, and micro-enterprises in the NMBMM.
