The United Democratic Movement (UDM) is happy and proud of our leadership in the Eastern Cape’s Mhlontlo for their recent, Wednesday by-elections, which showed significant progress.

In six of the seven voting districts, the UDM was very active, and in three of them, it narrowly defeated the African National Congress (ANC). We acknowledge that the UDM had its greatest result in 2023 in this by-election, which was the last one held in the province for the year.

With 39%, the UDM won the most vote-rich voting district in the ward, the area around Balasi Cokomfeni village, ward 23.

We want to reassure everyone that the UDM is prepared to govern, including our members, prospective members, voters, and the youth, including all South Africans. On the ground, we have been effectively empowering our people to vote out issues that impact them on a daily basis, such as poverty, unemployment, cadre deployment, corruption in tenders, and criminality.

The UDM would like to encourage all South Africans, especially the youth, to vote in the upcoming national and provincial elections (NPE 2024) by turning out in big numbers. Your vote is the only weapon in your arsenal to change the current story. Voting locations across the nation will open this weekend to help anyone who need to register to vote, as it is the first official registration weekend.
