Statement by Bantu Holomisa, UDM President
The United Democratic Movement (UDM) has noted that the former Speaker of the National Assembly, Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula, has at last handed herself over to police at the Lyttelton police station in Tshwane. She should have done so from day one and not wasted everyone’s time.
This would not have happened if the UDM had not satisfied itself in 2021 that there was prima facie evidence about allegations that she received several payments totalling over R5 million between 2017 and 2019 from at least one company that had contracts with the South African National Defence Force when she served as Minister of Defence and Military Veterans.
More is the pity that her colleague and co-chairperson of the Joint Standing Committee of Defence, Vusumuzi Xaba, showed no interest in taking matter seriously.
President Cyril Ramaphosa and the Always Nurturing Corruption now sits with egg on their faces after Mapisa-Nqakula’s lateral deployment from Minister to Speaker.
