Statement by Bongani Maqungwana, UDM NEC Member for the Western Cape
The United Democratic Movement (UDM) extends our heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of the construction workers who tragically lost their lives in the building collapse in George on Monday, May 6, 2024. May their souls find peace.
Our thoughts are with those who have been rescued and we wish them a speedy recovery. Our prayers are also with those who remain trapped under the rubble, as well as with the rescue and emergency teams working tirelessly at the scene.
We commend the Western Cape government for swiftly appointing the structural engineering firm V3 to investigate the cause of this tragedy. It is crucial that we uncover the root cause of this disaster while simultaneously addressing the immediate crisis.
