Statement by Yongama Zigebe, Councillor in the City of Johannesburg for the United Democratic Movement

The United Democratic Movement (UDM) in the City of Johannesburg joins the nation in mourning the passing of Pastor Ray McCauley, founder of the Rhema Bible Church and a visionary leader who touched countless lives with his unwavering dedication to the body of Christ. His passing is a profound loss, not only to the Christian community but to all South Africans who have been inspired by his ministry and humanitarian efforts.

Pastor McCauley’s life was a testament to faith in action. From the establishment of the Rhema Bible Church, he nurtured a spiritual home for millions, fostering unity, hope, and transformation. His leadership extended beyond the pulpit – he was a guiding force during moments of national healing and reconciliation, using his platform to advocate for peace and social justice.

At a time when our country faced deep divisions, Pastor McCauley led with compassion, demonstrating that spiritual leadership and civic responsibility go hand in hand. His unwavering commitment to uplifting the most vulnerable in society through outreach programs, charity, and advocacy will remain a cornerstone of his legacy.

As he steps into his eternal rest at the age of 75, we remember a man whose work continues to echo in the communities he served. His teachings, leadership, and vision have left an indelible mark on the soul of this nation. His legacy of servant leadership, grounded in faith, humility, and the relentless pursuit of building stronger communities, will remain with us for generations to come.

The UDM City of Johannesburg offers its deepest condolences to the McCauley family, the Rhema Bible Church congregation, and all those who were touched by his life. We honour his memory by committing ourselves to the values he so deeply believed in – unity, service, and the pursuit of a just society.

May his soul rest in peace, and may his family find comfort in the outpouring of love and support during this time of mourning. Our thoughts and prayers are with them.
