Statement by Yongama Zigebe, UDM Secretary General

The United Democratic Movement, extends our deepest condolences to the family, friends, and fans of the late Bulelwa Mkutukana, fondly known as ‘Zahara.’ It is with heavy hearts that we acknowledge the passing of this remarkable South African music artist.

Zahara’s journey in the music industry was nothing short of extraordinary. With her debut album “Loliwe” in 2011, she not only captured the hearts of her fellow South Africans but also earned international acclaim, achieving multi-platinum status. Zahara’s soulful voice and poignant lyrics served as a beacon of hope, empowerment, and unity for people from diverse backgrounds.

Throughout her illustrious career, Zahara earned well-deserved recognition, receiving multiple South African Music Awards, including Best Female Artist and Album of the Year. Her music touched the depths of human emotion, exploring themes of love, loss, and resilience. Zahara’s ability to convey raw emotions through her art made her an icon and a role model for aspiring musicians.

In addition to her musical prowess, Zahara was admired for her philanthropic efforts and commitment to making a positive impact in her community.
