The United Democratic Movement Women’s Organisation is extremely shocked by the Cutting Edge segment that was broadcasted on the 26th of April,2022. The uMzimvubu river is conspicuously dangerous, dozens of people have drowned over the years and if the Government continues to turn a blind eye on this matter, many innocent lives are still going to be claimed by this perilous river.
Yesterday, the 27th of April, South Africa marked 28 years since the country received freedom, but in some parts of the Eastern Cape our people cannot say the same as they are still living like they are under Apartheid. The incumbent Goverment has done absolutely nothing to improve the lives of people in areas such as Mount Ayliff, uMthatha, Ngquza Hill and many more areas of the former Transkei.
UDEMWO call upon The President of South Africa, Mr Cyril Ramaphosa to visit the poorest of the poor areas in Eastern to see the living conditions that people experience on a daily basis, the fact that the residents of Mount Ayliff are still relying on a bridge that was donated by the Anglican Church more than 20 years ago, it says a lot about the Provincial Government itself. The Premier of the Eastern Cape, Oscar Mabuyane is a disgrace and now he is exposed to the whole world to see his infamy ways.
President Ramaphosa and Oscar Mabuyane should avail themselves and go cross the tebetebe bridge and taste what our people go through daily when they have to get to Healthcare facilities and access shops.
This Government is heartless.
