Dear Ms Modise
URGENT: Decision of National Assembly Rules Committee regarding the composition of the Section 194 Committee on the fitness of the current Public Protector to hold office, and its rejection of the UDM’s proposal for a weighted voting system
1. I refer to my correspondence of 12 April 2021 regarding the composition of the Section 194 Committee on the fitness of the current Public Protector to hold office and our proposal of a weighted voting system; as well as your response letter of 19 April 2021, wherein you had indicated that you would refer the matter to the National Assembly Rules Committee “to consider the implications of varying the current approach”.
2. I understand, after having been approached by the media for comment this afternoon, that the Rules Committee has considered the matter and has rejected the United Democratic Movement’s (UDM) proposal.
3. The UDM herewith urgently requests a formal letter from your office informing us of the outcome of the meeting, as well as a copy of the minutes of the aforementioned Rules Committee meeting with the purpose of seeking judicial review outside Parliament.
Yours sincerely
Mr Bantu Holomisa, MP
President of the United Democratic Movement
